Legal Workshop on Commercial Arbitration at Gadjah Mada University

On 6 December 2014, Panji Prasetyo & Partners (PP+P) in cooperation with the Community of International Moot Court, Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, held a one-day Legal Workshop on Commercial Arbitration at Faculty of Law of UGM, Yogyakarta.The aim of the Legal Workshop is to socialize the nature of arbitration as an alternative business dispute resolution to the students of UGM who are interested in the concept of arbitration. The students of UGM are expected to be able to differentiate the practical point of view of arbitration compared to litigation before a court of law.

The speakers, our Senior Partner, Mr. Panji Prasetyo, S.H., LL.M, ACIArb. and the Managing Partner, Mrs. Agnesya Munita Narang, S.H., MITCLaw addressed the following issues:
(i) nature of arbitration;
(ii) arbitration agreement;
(iii) arbitration procedure under variety of domestic and international arbitration institutions;
(iv) arbitration award, and
(v) soft-laws as a source of arbitration.

The Legal Workshop was finalized by a focus group session discussing a case study provided by PP+P, which covers the issue of arbitration agreement, notice of arbitration and impartiality & independency of arbitrators.

The workshop was attended by approximately 40 (bachelor & master) students of UGM and Heribertus Jaka Triana, S.H., LL.M., MA (Phd Cand.), a Senior Lecturer of UGM.

This Legal Workshop will be continuously held by PP+P to educate academia, both public or private universities, on the practice of arbitration as alternative business dispute resolution as a relatively new concept of dispute resolution in Indonesia.
